Title Arrow ' s theorem and max - star transitivity

چکیده
In the literature on social choice with fuzzy preferences, a central question is how to represent the transitivity of a fuzzy binary relation. Arguably the most general way of doing this is to assume a form of transitivity called max-star transitivity. The star operator in this formulation is commonly taken to be a triangular norm. The familiar max-min transitivity condition is a member of this family, but there are in nitely many others. Restricting attention to fuzzy aggregation rules that satisfy counterparts of unanimity and independence of irrelevant alternatives, we characterise the set of max-star transitive relations that permit preference aggregation to be non-dictatorial. This set contains all and only those triangular norms that contain a zero divisor.

متن کاملArrow's Impossibility Theorem Without Unanimity
Arrow’s Impossibility Theorem states that any constitution which satisfies Transitivity, Independence of Irrelevant Alternatives (IIA) and Unanimity is a dictatorship. Wilson derived properties of constitutions satisfying Transitivity and IIA for unrestricted domains where ties are allowed. In this paper we consider the case where only strict preferences are allowed. In this case we derive a ne...
متن کاملOn the equivalence of the Arrow impossibility theorem and the Brouwer fixed point theorem
We will show that in the case where there are two individuals and three alternatives (or under the assumption of free-triple property) the Arrow impossibility theorem (Arrow (1963)) for social welfare functions that there exists no social welfare function which satisfies transitivity, Pareto principle, independence of irrelevant alternatives, and has no dictator is equivalent to the Brouwer fix...

Theorem 7.1 (4.2) Let T be a set of transformation rules. The transformation testing problem is NP-complete for T with star-free rules, where does not appear on the rhs of atomic rules. Remark: Note that the reenement rule r 0 of Section 2 is not star-free, and thus the above theorem does not apply. Nevertheless, the transformation testing for it is in NP-TIME. (Each application of the rule r s...
متن کاملDice games and Arrows theorem
We observe that non-transitivity is not the most general way that Arrows impossibility theorem is reected in dice games. Non-transitivity in dice games is a well-known phenomenon. It was described in several Scienti c American columns in the 1970s, beginning with [3], and has since become a popular topic, discussed in articles like [4, 5] and textbooks on elementary mathematics and probabilit...
